The agreement was signed during the XVII International Economic Forum held in Kazan, Russia, attended by Leader of the House and Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development Bimal Ratnayake.
The MoU was exchanged between the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation and Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development to support the development of Sri Lanka’s railway transport system.
Dmitry Zverev, State Secretary and Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, signed the agreement on behalf of Russia, while Minister Ratnayake signed on behalf of Sri Lanka.
The initiative is expected to pave the way for greater Russian involvement in Sri Lanka’s railway modernisation and infrastructure development efforts.
