The programme was inaugurated by the Secretary to the Ministry of Labour, S.M. Piyatissa, and was attended by ILO Country Representative Joni Simpson, Commissioner General of Labour Nadeeka Wataliyadda, and Executive Director of the National Police Training College, Deputy Inspector General of Police Manjula Mahagirilla.
During the event, the International Labour Organization (ILO) Country Representative Joni Simpson commended the efforts of the Ministry of Labour and the Department of Labour in addressing and eliminating forced labour.
The workshop has been organized to enhance knowledge and provide guidance on eliminating forced labour among selected officials from the Department of Labour, the Police Department, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Overseas Employment and Tourism. Participants represent the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces, with resource contributions provided by the respective institutions.
