The forum was conducted under the theme, “Shaping the Future of Cancer Across the Commonwealth.” Its primary objective was to develop a unified cancer control strategy for Commonwealth countries based on the recommendations of the Lancet Oncology Commonwealth Report.
The event was organized by the Commonwealth Secretariat and moderated by former Health Minister of Guyana, Leslie Ramsammy.
Representing Sri Lanka at the forum was Minister of Health and Mass Media, Nalinda Jayatissa, who also serves as the Chair of the South-East Asia Regional Committee of the World Health Organization.
He was accompanied by Secretary to the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, Specialist Dr. Anil Jasinghe; Deputy Director General of Health Services, Dr. S. Sreedharan; Sri Lanka’s Permanent Representative in Geneva, Sumith Dissanayake; along with several other senior Sri Lankan health sector officials.
The 79th World Health Assembly is being held at the headquarters of the World Health Organization in Geneva and will continue until May 23.
