The tragedy occurred in the Teldeniya Police Division, specifically in the area near the Bambaragala Temple, where a group of four young men had gone down to the reservoir to bathe. According to local authorities, three of the youths unexpectedly encountered difficulties and went underwater.
Emergency search operations were quickly launched by local police, residents, and rescue teams after the incident. While two bodies were recovered earlier in the day, the discovery of the final victim's body concluded the intense search.
Out of the group of four, only one youth managed to be rescued unharmed.
The police have identified the victims as residents of the Werellagama area in Kandy. All the young men involved in the tragic mishap were between the ages of 18 and 21. Teldeniya Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
