In a statement, Yusoof said balancing his duties as governor, alongside his role as the President’s Special Envoy for Foreign Direct Investment and his family commitments, had become increasingly difficult.
Addressing recent media speculation surrounding his position, Yusoof said he had communicated his desire to step down some time ago. However, he noted that he would continue serving as governor until a suitable successor is appointed to ensure a smooth transition.
“At the request of His Excellency, I will continue to serve as Governor until a suitable successor is identified, in order to ensure a smooth and orderly transition,” he said.
Yusoof further stated that after resigning from the governorship, he plans to continue in his voluntary honorary capacity as the President’s Special Envoy for Foreign Direct Investment. He said he hopes to continue supporting Sri Lanka’s investment promotion efforts through his international connections and networks.
He also expressed appreciation to the President for the confidence placed in him and reaffirmed his commitment to serving the country.
