The draft legislation, titled the Chief of Defence Staff (Repeal) Act, 2026, was prepared on the instructions of the Minister of Defence and published in the Government Gazette on May 15. The proposed law seeks to formally repeal the existing Act and provide for related and incidental matters.
According to the bill, the post of Chief of Defence Staff will be abolished once the new Act comes into force. The individual currently holding the position will be reassigned to their respective service within the armed forces.
The draft also stipulates that all movable and immovable assets belonging to the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff will be transferred to the Ministry of Defence upon implementation of the law.
