According to the NBRO, the warnings will remain until 4.00 PM today (15).
Level 2 Amber warnings have been issued for Neluwa in the Galle District, Agalawatta, Baduraliya, Matugama, Horana and Walallawita in the Kalutara District, Alawwa in the Kurunegala District and Pelmadulla and Ratnapura in the Ratnapura District.
Meanwhile, Level 1 Yellow warnings have also been issued for several areas in a number of districts. In the Badulla District, warnings have been issued for Bandarawela, Hali-Ela and Passara, while Seethawaka in the Colombo District has also been placed under alert.
In the Galle District, Thawalama, Elpitiya and Niyagama have been identified as vulnerable areas, while Ingiriya and Bulathsinhala in the Kalutara District have also been placed under warning.
Several Divisional Secretariat areas in the Kandy District including Pathahewaheta, Pasbage Korale, Akurana, Gangawata Korale, Panwila, Yatinuwara, Ganga Ihala Korale, Udapalatha, Poojapitiya, Thumpane, Deltota, Doluwa, Udunuwara, Hatharaliyadda and Harispattuwa have also been issued warnings.
In the Kegalle District, alerts have been issued for Mawanella, Bulathkohupitiya, Yatiyanthota, Aranayaka, Kegalle, Rambukkana, Warakapola, Dehiowita and Ruwanwella, while Narammala and Rideegama in the Kurunegala District have also been placed under warning.
The NBRO further noted that Naula, Ambanganga Korale and Rattota in the Matale District, Pitabeddara in the Matara District, and Badalkumbura, Wellawaya and Bibile in the Monaragala District have also been identified as landslide-prone areas.
In the Nuwara Eliya District, warnings have been issued for Norwood, Ambagamuwa Korale and Kotmale West, while Eheliyagoda, Kuruwita, Kalawana, Godakawela, Kiriella and Ayagama in the Ratnapura District have also been placed under Level 1 alert.
The NBRO has urged residents living in mountainous and landslide-prone areas to remain vigilant regarding early warning signs of landslides, including cracks in the ground, leaning trees and utility poles, sudden water seepage and unusual soil movement.
Authorities further advised the public to immediately move to safer locations if such warning signs are observed and to inform Grama Niladharis or relevant disaster management officials without delay.
