The agreement was signed in Minsk by Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath and Belarusian Transport Minister Alexei Lyakhnovich during Herath’s official visit to Belarus.
During the visit, Minister Vijitha Herath also met with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko to discuss ways of further strengthening long-standing bilateral relations between the two nations.
Discussions focused on developing cooperation in several mutually beneficial sectors including trade, industry, agriculture, education and people-to-people exchanges.
Both countries also reaffirmed their commitment to deepening diplomatic engagement as Sri Lanka and Belarus commemorate 25 years of diplomatic relations.
In addition, Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath held bilateral discussions with Belarusian Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov, during which both sides agreed to expand collaboration in political, economic, educational, cultural and social sectors.
The two countries also agreed to hold regular political consultations and convene the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation later this year as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral engagement further.
