As a result, two spill gates of the reservoir have been opened by two feet each, while another spill gate has been opened by one foot to release excess water.

Officials stated that the released water flows directly into the Kirindi Oya, causing a rapid increase in the water level of the river.

Accordingly, the Monaragala District Disaster Management Unit has urged residents living along both banks of the Kirindi Oya, as well as people using the river, to remain vigilant and exercise caution.
