Kotmale Police OIC Inspector Indika Lalith said the road was closed from the afternoon of May 14 as a precautionary measure after concerns emerged over unstable terrain in the Paragammana area, where a section of the road had previously collapsed.
Authorities warned that continued rainfall could further weaken the hillside and pose a danger to motorists using the route connecting Gampola and Kotmale.
Drivers have been advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes until the road is declared safe for travel.
Police said the situation is being continuously monitored and the road will be reopened once safety assessments are completed.
