Under the influence of this system, showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, North-Western and Northern provinces. Heavy rainfall of about 100 mm is likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts.
Showers or thundershowers may also occur in other parts of the island after 1.00 p.m.
The public has been advised to take necessary precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology says windy and rainy conditions over the sea areas around the island are expected to increase in the coming days.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in sea areas around the island, while south-westerly winds of 25–35 kmph are expected. Wind speeds may increase up to 50–60 kmph at times in sea areas extending from Kankasanthurai to Pottuvil via Puttalam, Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.
Sea areas off these coastal regions are expected to be rough at times, while other sea areas may remain moderate. Swell waves of about 2.0–2.5 metres may also increase in the sea areas from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.
Naval and fishing communities have been requested to remain attentive to future forecasts and bulletins issued by the Department of Meteorology.
