Officials stated that continuous heavy rainfall has led to several sections of track in the Niladi area being submerged, with water levels in surrounding locations still rising, posing risks to safe train operations.

In response, authorities have restricted all train movements on the line to operate only between Colombo Fort and Chilaw from this evening and throughout tomorrow. Services beyond Chilaw towards Puttalam have been suspended as a precautionary measure.

The Railway Department further noted that trains scheduled for tomorrow morning will commence and terminate at Chilaw Railway Station until conditions improve.

Authorities added that decisions regarding the resumption of services beyond Chilaw will be made based on evolving weather patterns and flood conditions in the affected areas.

Passengers have been advised to verify train schedules and service updates before commencing their journeys.
