The country received US$ 767.9 million in worker remittances in April this year, compared to US$ 646 million recorded in April 2025.
The Central Bank stated that total foreign exchange remittances received during the first four months of 2026 amounted to US$ 3,062.8 million.
Authorities attributed the increase to several foreign employment policies introduced by the government, including agreements with foreign countries, the opening of new job markets for skilled workers and the implementation of welfare benefits for overseas employees.
According to the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment, a total of 79,954 Sri Lankans had left for foreign employment during the first four months of 2026.
The highest number of workers travelled to the United Arab Emirates, with 17,012 departures recorded.
Meanwhile, authorities noted that Sri Lanka recorded its highest-ever annual foreign exchange remittance inflow in 2025, surpassing US$ 8 billion for the first time in the country’s history.
