The facility, launched under the “Clean Sri Lanka” programme, is expected to support sustainable waste management while safeguarding natural resources for future generations.
Officials said the project would encourage the recycling and reuse of construction debris that had previously been disposed of indiscriminately, contributing to soil pollution, water contamination and flood risks.
The Government also announced plans to expand research activities linked to the initiative by engaging engineering faculties of state universities.
Authorities further noted that support from construction contractors and industry stakeholders would be crucial for the success of the programme.
The recycling centre, operated with the involvement of the State Engineering Corporation, was opened this morning (08) at the Ekala Industrial Zone.
