The police clarified that the reports of an acquittal are entirely false and do not reflect the actual proceedings of the Hambantota Magistrate’s Court.
According to the CCIB, the bird park owner and two other individuals remain suspects in a legal action initiated by the Bureau regarding the illegal importation of high-capacity motorcycles and the possession of cannabis. The case was called before the Hambantota Magistrate’s Court on May 6, 2026, where investigators provided an update on the status of the ongoing legal proceedings.
During the hearing, the Central Criminal Investigation Bureau requested the court's permission to separate the charges to ensure a more streamlined prosecution. Specifically, the Bureau sought to pursue the illegal motorcycle importation charges under the provisions of the Customs Ordinance in one case, while maintaining a separate legal action for the possession of cannabis.
The court granted this request, concluding the initial "B" report and issuing orders to proceed with separate cases as requested by the CCIB. The Bureau emphasized that no suspects were acquitted or discharged by the court during this session.
