According to police reports, the arrest was made following an investigation into statements made by the monk on social media platforms, including YouTube, where he purportedly threatened Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijepala and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasuriya. The CCIB initiated the probe after the rhetoric was flagged for potentially inciting violence or obstructing the duties of state officials.

This legal trouble comes a year after the Sri Lanka Ramanna Maha Nikaya took formal disciplinary action against him. In early 2025, the Nikaya’s Executive Committee (Karaka Sabha) decided to expel him from the Sangha (the monastic community). The decision was reached following a series of inquiries into his conduct, specifically regarding the "obscene and inappropriate" language used on his YouTube channel, which the religious body deemed a violation of the monastic code of conduct.
