Association Chairman Gamunu Wijeratne claimed that the Metro Bus project is effectively being operated by the Sri Lanka Transport Board under a different name and warned that it could further weaken the country’s passenger transport sector.
“It is because of the SLTB that passenger transport in Sri Lanka was destroyed. Now, by introducing Metro buses, this government is doing the same again. This is how the Treasury is being wiped out. This is a national crime,” Wijeratne stated.
He further argued that the new bus service would not solve long-standing inefficiencies in public transport, but would instead repeat previous failures while placing an additional burden on taxpayer funds.
