Severe lightning warning issued by Department of Meteorology

According to the announcement released today (April 15) at 12:00 noon, the warning will remain in effect until 11:00 p.m. tonight.

The department stated that there is a high likelihood of thundershowers accompanied by intense lightning in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Uva provinces, as well as in the districts of Galle, Matara, Anuradhapura, and Kurunegala after around 1:00 p.m.

Temporary strong winds may also occur in these areas during thundershowers.

The Department of Meteorology urges the public to take necessary precautions to minimize damage and risks caused by lightning.
