A tragic collision between a motorcycle and a bus in the Pallekäle police division resulted in the deaths of two young students. The accident occurred on the Mahiyanganaya-Kandy main road near the Balagolla Rajawella bridge. According to police reports, a motorcycle traveling from Mahiyanganaya towards Kandy collided with a bus traveling in the opposite direction.

The rider of the motorcycle succumbed to his injuries while being admitted to the Menikhinna Hospital, while the pillion rider passed away while undergoing treatment at the Kandy National Hospital. Both victims were 17-year-old school students residing in the Balagolla and Digana areas. The driver of the bus involved in the accident has been taken into police custody, and Pallekäle Police are conducting further investigations.

In a separate incident in Matara, an elderly woman died after being struck by a bus on the Matara-Hakmana road. The accident took place in the Thihagoda area when a bus traveling from Matara towards Hakmana hit a pedestrian who was crossing the road.

The victim, a 67-year-old resident of the Thihagoda area, sustained critical injuries and passed away shortly after being admitted to the Matara Hospital. The driver of the bus has been arrested by the Matara Police, who are currently carrying out a detailed investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
