Showers or thundershowers are expected in the Southern and Eastern provinces and Mullaittivu District, according to the Department of Meteorology.

Several other areas of the island are also likely to experience showers or thundershowers after 1.00 p.m.

Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75mm is possible in some areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts.

The public has been advised to take adequate precautions to minimise possible damage caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Misty conditions are also expected in some areas of the Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces during the early hours of the morning.

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers are expected at several locations in the sea areas surrounding the island during the next 24 hours.

Winds in these sea areas will be easterly or variable, with speeds ranging from 20 to 30 kmph. Sea conditions are expected to remain moderate.

However, temporarily strong gusty winds reaching 60–70 kmph and very rough sea conditions may occur during thundershowers.
