The suspects, identified as a group of young Indonesian nationals, were apprehended with a stock of electronic communication equipment valued at approximately Rs. 1.5 million. The equipment is suspected to be used in carrying out financial crimes via the internet within the country.

The group had arrived at Katunayake Airport from Singapore on Singapore Airlines flight SQ-468 at around 12:50 a.m. on April 2.

During inspection, customs officers recovered 70 used mobile phones, eight mini computers, and 54 SIM cards concealed within their luggage.

Further investigations are being carried out by Customs officers in coordination with relevant divisions of the Sri Lanka Police.
