The Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB), in collaboration with the National Transport Commission (NTC), has launched a special bus service for passengers travelling from Colombo to their hometowns for the upcoming Deepavali festival.
Deepavali, which falls on November 8 this year, is expected to prompt a large number of people to travel out of Colombo from today (06), with many passengers expected to use the Pettah Central Bus Stand and the private bus terminal on Bastion Mawatha.
The company operating the SLTB's seat reservation service said a significant number of seats on buses travelling from Colombo to destinations including Hatton, Talawakelle and Nuwara Eliya have already been booked for today (06) and tomorrow (07).
Meanwhile, seats on buses operating to Jaffna, Vavuniya, Badulla, Batticaloa and Ampara are also being booked rapidly.
In view of the expected festive season rush, the relevant authorities have urged passengers to make advance seat reservations through the websites 1315.lk or sltbeseat.lk to avoid congestion and ensure a convenient journey.
