The latest meeting, held yesterday (30) at the Ministry of Labour, brought together representatives of the Ceylon Electricity Board and chairpersons of newly formed electricity companies under the patronage of Deputy Minister of Labour Mahinda Jayasinghe.
The discussions come in the wake of recent government intervention that successfully ended the electricity workers’ strike, with negotiations proceeding in accordance with provisions of the Industrial Disputes Act.
During the meeting, trade union representatives outlined a range of concerns and proposals, focusing on issues such as appointment letters, organizational hierarchy, and the employee handbook. Officials indicated that the dialogue helped move several of these matters towards practical solutions.
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Minister Mahinda Jayasinghe stressed that sustained cooperation between employers and employees is key to resolving industrial disputes promptly and effectively. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the process and encouraged all parties to address challenges collectively through continued engagement.
Senior officials including Secretary to the Ministry of Labour S.M. Piyatissa and Commissioner General of Labour Nadeeka Wataliyadda, along with other stakeholders and trade union representatives, were also present at the discussions.
