Deputy Minister Ruwan Senarath said the government appreciates the public’s continued sacrifices and cooperation in managing the evolving situation, stressing the need for collective action to prepare for potential future challenges.
He noted that while steps are being taken to minimize energy consumption, the government remains committed to carrying out all planned activities for the year without delays.
In line with these efforts, the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government has decided to conduct the remaining provincial review conferences online in the Western, North Western, Uva, Northern and Eastern provinces.
The move is aimed at ensuring the efficient implementation of funds allocated to local government institutions, enabling projects to be completed on schedule and preventing unutilized funds from being returned to the Treasury.
The discussions focus on reviewing project proposals linked to the Rs. 2,500 million allocated for 2026 under performance-based capital grants for revenue-generating initiatives. These projects are intended to help local government bodies become more financially independent without relying heavily on central government funding.
Attention is also being given to projects carried out under the National Solid Waste Management Unit, as well as development initiatives such as small bridge construction, with authorities seeking to identify and address any obstacles to timely completion.
Officials emphasized that these measures are part of broader efforts to maintain economic stability and ensure uninterrupted development activities despite external pressures.
