The meeting was held in the backdrop of disruptions to global fuel supply networks caused by ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and following the lifting of sanctions related to the purchase of Russian oil.
During the discussions, Minister Herath raised the possibility of purchasing Russian fuel as a measure to ensure the uninterrupted supply of fuel to Sri Lanka.
Ambassador Dzhagaryan agreed to immediately convey Sri Lanka’s request to the Russian government and assured that he would coordinate with the relevant institutions to facilitate the necessary arrangements.
The Russian Ambassador also stated that Sri Lanka could rely on Russia’s support at any time.
The meeting was also attended by Deputy Minister of Labour, Finance and Planning Anil Jayantha, Chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation D. J. Rajakaruna, along with ministry secretaries and other government officials.
