Senadheera was arrested yesterday by the Katunayake Airport Police and produced before the court today, during which bail was granted.
His arrest was based on an Interpol-issued warrant dated 25 November 2016, issued by Gampaha Chief Magistrate Kawindya Nanayakkara, ordering his immediate detention over allegations related to contempt of court.
Senadheera had left Sri Lanka in 2010 following an arson attack on the Lanka E News office and the disappearance of journalist Prageeth Eknaligoda. He had been living in the United Kingdom under political asylum since then.
In recent years, he was also known to have supported the National People’s Power (NPP) political movement.
