Speaking at an awareness program on plastic waste management held in Colombo yesterday (11), the Minister recalled that during the Anuradhapura era, King Pandukabhaya had established special teams responsible for waste management.

He also noted that the Vanaropa Sutta in Buddhist philosophy identifies environmental conservation as a meritorious act that yields benefits day and night.

The Minister stressed that protecting the environment is essential to achieving the government’s policy vision of “A Prosperous Country – A Beautiful Life.”

He added that building a clean and scenic environment free from plastic pollution requires collective action from institutions, manufacturers, and the public.
