The meeting was chaired by Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), and focused on reviewing the ongoing distribution of foreign disaster relief assistance received from international partners to relevant government institutions.
Discussions centered on ensuring transparency, accountability, and operational efficiency throughout the distribution process. Committee members observed that the relief distribution has now entered its final phase and emphasized the need to maintain procedural integrity during the remaining stages.
Further instructions were issued regarding goods still held in storage facilities. Officials were directed to assess institutional requirements and expedite the appropriate allocation of remaining supplies.
Attention was also given to the data management system established to streamline the receipt, storage, and distribution of foreign relief items. Authorities were instructed to carry out necessary audits to ensure data accuracy and system integrity.
In addition, directives were issued to facilitate the transfer of specialized equipment and materials provided by foreign partners for disaster relief and rescue operations to the Tri Forces for operational use.
Highlighting the importance of inter-agency coordination, the Deputy Minister stressed that effective collaboration among all stakeholders is crucial for the successful completion of the relief distribution process. He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to maintaining efficiency, accountability, and responsiveness in managing foreign disaster assistance.
