The eighth edition of Le Raid Amazones, one of the world’s leading women’s adventure sports competitions, is currently underway in Sri Lanka.
The event, taking place from November 2 to 10, 2026, brings together 250 French female competitors and 55 international staff members.
The participants arrived in Sri Lanka on November 2 aboard a SriLankan Airlines flight operated entirely by an all-female crew.
This year’s competition is centred mainly around Kalutara and its coastal areas, with activities also scheduled in Galle and Bentota. A special treasure hunt around the historic Galle Fort is among the highlights of this year’s programme.
The competition features a range of challenging sporting activities, including canoeing, cycling, running and treasure hunts.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath attended the inauguration of the canoeing event held on November 5.
Organised with the support of Sri Lanka’s tourism sector, SriLankan Airlines and Connaissance De Ceylan (Pvt) Ltd, the official on-ground hospitality partner, the event is expected to provide a significant boost to Sri Lanka’s sports tourism industry.
