Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has highlighted that improving energy efficiency is vital for strengthening Sri Lanka’s economy. Speaking at the "Sri Lanka National Energy Efficiency Awards Ceremony" on February 24 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall, she said energy efficiency is not merely about reducing consumption but is a unique contribution to the country’s overall development.

The Prime Minister added that minimizing energy waste can save foreign exchange, stabilize the economy, and that promoting energy management across all sectors—from large factories to small businesses—is crucial.

She also stressed the importance of aligning with international agreements like the Paris Agreement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate global warming, while focusing on adopting new technologies and expanding renewable energy sources to ensure energy security.
