Police said that Nishantha, who had reportedly left the country following the incident, was taken into custody upon his return to Sri Lanka yesterday (23).
The shooting, which occurred in the vicinity of the popular beachfront hotel in 2023, prompted an investigation by local law enforcement authorities. Officials had earlier named Nishantha as a suspect and initiated efforts to locate him after he was believed to have fled overseas.
A violent, high-profile incident occurred at the W15 Hotel in Weligama, resulted in the death of a police officer and subsequent legal proceedings against senior police officials.
