Speaking on the current situation in the local gas market, Minister Samarasinghe said that the state-owned Litro Gas Lanka Company supplies the majority of the market, while Laugfs Gas Company also distributes yellow cylinders but does not operate under a continuous annual supply agreement, instead purchasing gas on a case-by-case basis. This, he noted, occasionally leads to supply disruptions.

To stabilize the market, the Minister said Litro Gas has been instructed to supply 38,000 metric tons for the coming month, and the average daily release of gas has been increased from 1,200 to 1,500 metric tons. He also confirmed that Litro plans to introduce additional blue cylinders to the market from March 12 to ensure households facing shortages can access gas without disruption.
