The Mount Lavinia Divisional Criminal Investigation Bureau has intercepted a significant domestic ice drug operation, arresting a 33-year-old Ratmalana resident in the Soysapura area. Authorities recovered 50 grams of ice drugs, valued at over Rs. 800,000, along with Rs. 44,000 in suspected drug proceeds.
Police investigations revealed that the seized drugs were being circulated within the country under the direction of Sudharaka Devapriya Peiris, a suspected large-scale trafficker currently abroad and related to the arrested man by marriage.
Chief Inspector Gamage Nilantha, Officer-in-Charge of the bureau, said the arrest underscores ongoing efforts to dismantle local drug networks and prevent their spread in the Colombo suburbs. Further investigations are underway to identify additional operatives and connections within the trafficking chain.
