Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Uva and Central provinces, as well as in the Hambantota District. Several other areas of the country may also experience showers or thundershowers after 1.00 p.m.

Heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm is likely in parts of the Central, Uva and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the districts of Batticaloa, Ampara and Polonnaruwa. Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm are expected in several other areas.

Misty conditions are forecast during the early morning hours in parts of the Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the districts of Galle, Matara and Kalutara.

Authorities have urged the public to take necessary precautions to minimize potential damage from localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Sea Areas Forecast

Showers or thundershowers are expected at times in the sea areas off the coast stretching from Galle to Trincomalee via Hambantota and Batticaloa. Other sea areas around the island may also experience showers or thundershowers during the evening or night.

Winds will be north-easterly to northerly in sea areas from Mullaittivu to Colombo via Kankasanthurai and Puttalam. In other surrounding sea areas, winds will be south-westerly or variable, with speeds ranging between 30–40 kmph.

Sea conditions are expected to be moderate. However, temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas may occur during thundershowers.
