Police said that two sergeants who were serving as night duty officers and assistants, along with a police constable assigned to guard the suspect, were suspended pending further investigations.
The suspect had been arrested by officers from the Special Operations Unit based at the Moratuwa Police Special Task Force Camp. She was taken into custody at Maliban Junction along the Attidiya main road in Ratmalana, where officers recovered 36,650 milligrams of heroin from her possession.
Following her arrest, the suspect was detained at the Mount Lavinia Police Station under a detention order. According to police, she escaped custody on the 16th after requesting to use the toilet, citing a physical need. While accompanied by a female constable, she reportedly fled the premises and escaped on a motorcycle that had been parked on the road nearby.
A special police team launched an immediate search operation and apprehended the suspect approximately eight hours later in the Kimbula Ela area of Thalawathugoda.
