The judgment was delivered by Nayomi Wickramasinghe at the Puttalam High Court. The second accused, a resident of Mahawewa, was also handed the same sentence.
In addition to the prison term, both were fined Rs. 80,000 each and ordered to pay Rs. 800,000 in compensation to the complainant. The court ruled that failure to pay the compensation would result in an additional 12 months of imprisonment.
