The student delivered her child on the morning of 15 February 2026 at Kegalle General Hospital, and hospital staff discharged her on 16 February to ensure she could attend the exam, which began today (17 February).
The girl’s family faces financial challenges. Her father passed away due to illness, and her mother supports the family by picking tea leaves in local small estates. Her only brother works in Colombo. Reports indicate that the mother was unaware of her daughter’s pregnancy until the delivery.
The student revealed that the pregnancy resulted from a relationship with a school-age peer, which has since ended. The newborn is currently receiving care in the hospital’s premature infant unit.
Hospital authorities acted swiftly to allow the student to continue her education, ensuring her academic future remains intact despite the unexpected circumstances.
