According to the Tissamaharama Police, 29 school transport vehicles were inspected during the operation, which was conducted in front of Debarawewa President's College with the participation of vehicle inspectors.
Of the vehicles examined, 23 school buses and three vans were banned from operating after being deemed unsafe for road use.
Police said the affected vehicles will only be permitted to resume service once necessary repairs are completed and the vehicles are re-inspected and certified as roadworthy by an authorized vehicle inspector.
The operation was aimed at ensuring the safety of schoolchildren and maintaining compliance with transport regulations, police added.
