Responding to a question raised by journalists during a site visit to the ‘Stadiumgama’ housing complex in Colombo 14, the Deputy Minister said unauthorized constructions are not carried out by individuals alone.
“There are specific political interventions behind them. As a populist government, we will not allow unauthorized constructions and unauthorized landfills,” he said.
He further noted that the Government is actively intervening to prevent economic and social collapse linked to unregulated development activities.
Gunasekara emphasized that all future development projects would follow people-oriented approaches while strictly adhering to legal and environmental standards.
“In all future development projects, we will implement a people-oriented development while protecting the environment according to legal methods,” he added.
