The case was taken up today (16), but proceedings were deferred as lawyers decided to withdraw from court duties. Despite the withdrawal, the defendant, Namal Rajapaksa, appeared before court when the matter was called, according to court sources.

The postponement was ordered in view of the absence of legal representatives following the decision to refrain from court appearances.

The case was filed by the Attorney General's Department, alleging that MP Rajapaksa misappropriated Rs. 70 million received from the Indian-based Krish Group, claiming the funds were intended to promote rugby in Sri Lanka.
