Sri Lanka Police have raided a hotel in the Nalloruwa area of Panadura, where 32 Chinese nationals were staying, following information about suspected online financial fraud and illegal business activities.

According to the Police Media Division, the operation was conducted on November 6 and 7 by officers of the Panadura Divisional Crime Investigation Unit.

The raid followed information received by the Senior Superintendent of Police in charge of the Panadura Division that the group may have been involved in illegal online activities or financial scams.

Police obtained a search warrant from the Panadura Magistrate’s Court before carrying out the operation.

The investigation was supported by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Police Special Task Force (STF), Criminal Records Division, Police Kennels Division and the Department of Official Languages.

During the search, police found 32 Chinese nationals at the hotel and seized 23 computers along with related accessories for further examination.

The seized equipment was taken to the Panadura South Police Station as investigations continue to determine whether any criminal offences had been committed.
