He made these remarks while addressing the media at the headquarters of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna on Nelum Mawatha yesterday (13).
Rajapaksa said the proposed commission would look into funds that allegedly came from foreign countries to support the Aragalaya and would reveal all related information to the public.
He claimed that even the American President had spoken about foreign funds being used through USAID to influence government changes in several countries, including Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
According to Rajapaksa, some individuals involved in the Aragalaya later claimed they had bought vehicles, houses, or migrated abroad. He alleged that while certain groups benefited personally and politically, another group of young people who took part in the protests lost their lives.
He further said that some individuals gained political power, becoming MPs and ministers, while others settled overseas or accumulated wealth.
Rajapaksa said this situation showed that those who led the Aragalaya ultimately gained power, while others paid the price.
