SLMC Councillor ousted from CMC after defying party

Sohara Buhari, a member of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) representing the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC), has lost her council seat following disciplinary action taken by the party.

The move came after she voted in favour of the National People’s Power (NPP) during the CMC budget vote, defying party directives.

SLMC General Secretary, President’s Counsel and Member of Parliament Nizam Kariapper initiated disciplinary proceedings against Buhari. Subsequently, the Election Commissioner confirmed her removal from the council.

The decision has been officially published in the Government Gazette.
