The Sri Lanka Navy said that it has earned nearly 600,000 US dollars in foreign exchange within four months through operations carried out to provide facilities to merchant ship security teams.

Director General Operations, Rear Admiral Harsha de Silva, said that a total of 598,250 US dollars was earned during the four-month period from October 3 last year, when the operations commenced.

He said the earnings were generated after the Navy entered into agreements with several foreign private maritime security companies to provide facilities and support services to security teams deployed on merchant vessels.

Rear Admiral Harsha de Silva made these remarks while addressing a press conference held to brief the media on the progress and outcomes of the operations.
