The Central Crime Bureau (CCB) has obtained court permission to detain and question two members of the notorious Ava gang for 90 days in connection with a murder case.
The two suspects were arrested at the Katunayake Airport upon their arrival in Sri Lanka after fleeing to India. Police said the suspects had been on the run since a murder committed in the Manipay area, Jaffna, in 2016.
International red notices had been issued for their arrest, enabling authorities to take them into custody immediately after they arrived in the country. Following their arrest, the suspects were handed over to the Central Crime Bureau for further investigations.
According to police, initial investigations have revealed that the suspects were also involved in a network supplying hired gunmen, while maintaining close links with drug traffickers. Further investigations are ongoing to identify other individuals connected to the criminal network.
