The Attorney General informed the Supreme Court that the government has decided to reconsider the Bill on the Protection of Residents that was presented to Parliament.
This was conveyed when the petitions challenging the proposed Bill were taken up for hearing today (09). Appearing on behalf of the Attorney General, Additional Solicitor General Sumathi Dharmawardena made the announcement to the court.
Accordingly, the court was informed that the Minister of Justice has granted a one-month period, starting from February 03, to obtain public views and proposals regarding the Bill.
