Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development Bimal Ratnayake says that the road license of a bus will be revoked if a driver or conductor is identified as using drugs.

The Minister made these remarks while participating in a meeting held at the Matara District Secretariat.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Ratnayake stressed that bus owners are responsible for the conduct of their employees, noting that owners are aware of whether their drivers or conductors are involved in drug use.

“We tell bus owners not to allow this under any circumstances. Otherwise, the road license of the bus will be lost,” he said. “We do not believe that a bus driver or conductor can use drugs without the knowledge of the bus owner.”

He further urged bus owners to act responsibly when recruiting staff, warning that failure to do so could result in the loss of their business.

“Instead of losing your license, employ individuals who are not addicted to drugs. Otherwise, you will lose your business. There are many young drivers in the villages,” the Minister added.
