Minister of Digital Affairs Bimal Rathnayake announced today that the system for collecting on-the-spot traffic fines via the GovPay platform has officially been launched in the Western Province and Sri Lanka's expressways.

Speaking at a special media briefing held to raise public awareness, the Minister emphasized that this initiative marks a significant step towards digital governance and improved traffic law enforcement.

According to Minister Rathnayake, 1,000 Traffic Police officers are being equipped with mobile phones today (28) to facilitate the new system. He noted that all necessary officials have already undergone training to ensure the effective implementation of the digital fine collection method.

He further stated that the swift rollout of the GovPay fine system was made possible due to the strong commitment and coordination of the Ministry of Digital Affairs.

The initiative is expected to improve transparency, minimize delays, and offer a more convenient solution for motorists and law enforcement alike.
