Voter turnout in the 2025 Local Government (LG) elections has shown promising engagement, with most districts reporting turnout figures exceeding 30% by 12 noon today, according to official reports.
Despite concerns over voter apathy in previous years, this year’s midday statistics reveal active participation across the country. Districts such as Matara (42%), Mannar (40%), Trincomalee (36%), Badulla (36%), and Galle (35%) have reported some of the highest levels of voter activity so far.

Election officials have expressed hope that these figures will rise steadily throughout the day, urging citizens to exercise their democratic right before polling closes.
The Election Commission is expected to release the final turnout statistics after polling ends this evening.
