The Federation of Health Professionals has decided to temporarily suspend its planned token strike, which was set to take place tomorrow, March 6. The decision follows constructive discussions between the federation and Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa.

Ravi Kumudesh, the Joint Convenor of the Federation of Health Professionals, announced that the strike would be postponed until 8:00 a.m. on March 17. This move aims to provide more time for dialogue and resolution regarding concerns raised by the health sector unions.

The strike was initially planned as a collective action by various health sector trade unions, including the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA). The unions were protesting against what they described as cuts in the allowances of health sector employees as part of the government’s recent budget proposals.

Kumudesh emphasized that while the strike has been temporarily called off, the federation remains committed to advocating for the rights of health sector workers and will continue to engage in discussions with the government to address their concerns.

Further developments are expected in the coming weeks as the unions and the government continue their negotiations.
